  • The Alsadaqa committee members follow Quránic guidelines for the eligibility criteria for applications for assistance. We use an open and fair evaluation process to facilitate available resources to our constituents.

  • According to Shaikh Gharadhawi ‘Yes’ zakat can be used for helping masjids, Islamic schools, Islamic hospitals, shelters for Muslim orphans etc. in areas where Muslims are a minority (such as the USA).

  • Yes, in non-Islamic countries, because muslims do not have resources like those who live in Islamic countries, zakat or sadaqa can be used to buy property for a masjid, school or community center.

 

 

.What kind of debts qualify for zakat and sadaqa?

 

  • Based on the availability of funds, all debts qualify for zakat and sadaqa in the order of precedence, after needs of the poor are met.

  • Those who have precedence for receiving sadaqa over others are ones children, family, and relatives. It is not permissible to give sadaqa to a stranger when you and your dependents are in need of it.

  • Alsadaqa is an independent organization and is not affiliated with any of the mosques in its area. The mosques in its area support its concept and acknowledge the need for it.

  • Alsadaqa's activities are focused on providing a centralized financial organization for the community to participate and revive the Bait ul Mal, following the tradition of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Right now it is ‘visible’ on the internet as a virtual network of community resources and referrals. See Programs section

  • Bait ul Mal (now AlSadaqa) started in August 2006 with six founding members. At present we have 16 members and current steering committee is responsible for its administration.
